Dividing financial and other assets requires close attention
During any divorce or family law dispute, there comes a time when you have to get down to the numbers and handle financial concerns. The incomes of both parties involved need to be examined so child and spousal support orders can be properly established and marital assets divided.
What can you do to prepare?
In addition to the general divorce checklist to the right, getting more detailed on your list of assets could help protect your interests. For each asset, estimate its value (or get an appraisal). Locate any documentation that provides a history of the purchase or acquisition of the asset. Gather any available information that shows who contributed what amounts to its purchase.
